Half Marathon Training: Week 21

I’m in absolute shock that I’ve been training for 21 weeks. Don’t even get me started on my feelings about Azalee turning one this weekend. I’ll start sobbing.

Back to my training.

A little less than 2 weeks ago, I let the world know that I’m participating in a 90 day challenge to kick my training up a notch. I managed to have 3 one-on-one sessions with a personal trainer and run 3 times last week. Two of those runs were even outside!

Oh, how I missed running outside. The change of scenery, the fresh air and pacing yourself without up/down arrows. It was glorious! And guess what? The strength training lead me to an entire pain free run. 30 minutes with no pain! That is worth the extra workouts for sure.

I also did something last week that I’ve never done before- I signed up for my first 5km run. No just any run either, the Color Me Rad run.

Every 5 minutes of the run, you get Color Bombed. By the end, you’re covered in rainbows. I’m not going to lie, Sarah really wanted to do the run originally and I was all: “No way! Doesn’t cornstarch congeal water? Wouldn’t it suck up sweat and become colourful gravy by the end?”. Sick, right? Once I really put it into perspective, it’s nothing unlike a live Gwar show. If I can get covered in fake blood, puss and jizz, I can totally handle coloured gravy.

With my first 5k run planned, a 10k is next. I’m looking over runs to take part in and It’s actually kind of fun. I never would have seen myself doing this before August. Never. Life is damn interesting when you’re challenging yourself everyday.

The last time I measured myself was on January 18th. When I checked again last week, I had lost another 7 inches. Where does that take me? A 37 inch loss. 37 inches in 20 weeks. That’s 1.85 inches a week. Crazy!

Before you ask how much weight I’ve lost, it’s 6 pounds. Actually, I don’t even know if that’s true anymore. I retired my scale. Silly piece of plastic was ruling my mornings and getting me down. I chose not to pay attention to it anymore. I’ll focus on the inches.

If you are wondering how my training at Blitz is going- this is my latest post: Week 1: Inner Ninja. You can find out why I hate this thing:
