2012 in Review: Babies, Kindness and Running

I can’t believe 2012 is coming to a close. It was an absolutely amazing year full of so many great moments. I figured I would take a moment to reflect on them.

January
January was a month of change. I started getting ready for our new baby who was due in March. Tenesea helped:

Derek also became a year older and a year wiser.

February:
February brought restless nights and insomnia while waiting for the new baby. It also brought a tradition of Friday afternoon lunches and Costco runs with Sarah.

Tenesea transitioned to her big girl room from the nursery. It would be awesome if she actually slept there, but that’s a different story.

March
In early March, our rescue cat- Mama Kitty had the cutest little kittens. I spent a lot of time squishing their little faces.

On March 17th, I met Baby Spider-Man for the first time. We named her Azalee Patricia. It’s funny that we gave her Patricia as a middle name on St. Patrick’s Day. It wasn’t intentional, Patricia is her Godmother- Tara’s middle name.

Azalee was born on a day that everyone celebrates. Makes perfect sense to me. I’ll teach her to stay away from green beer though.

April
As I found my footing as a mom of two, Tenesea found her footing as a big sister.

May
May marked my first Mother’s Day as a mom of two. We spent the weekend in Calgary to attend our Nephew- Oliver’s baptism.

I also started meal planning, which I am still focusing on months later.

June
In June, I started making my own food from scratch. I found a real love of cooking and baking that I had no idea that I had.

July
July was a great month. Spray parks, outdoor festivals, friends, family and love from two little girls.

My grandpa visited from Osoyoos. He’s one of my favourite people on the planet. We don’t get to see each other often, but when we do, we make the best of it.

And my birthday wish of sharing kindness resulted in 115 acts of kindness and counting. Make Jen’s Day is born.

Make Jen’s Day has changed my life in so many ways. I can’t wait to share my plans with you for 2013. It’s huge!

July 2012 will go down in history for me as the month I truly found myself. Thank you for being a part of that.

August
In August, I decided to come clean with myself and focus becoming a healthier person and a better role model for my girls.

The next day, I tied up my shoes and completed my first Couch to 5km run. It was hard, but I did it.

August was also the month that my little girl turned 4. Hard to believe so much time has passed.

Tenesea is already a smart, kind, funny and incredibly feisty girl. The more I see her personality come through, the prouder I am. I just love her so much.

September
September was a big month of change for me. I left Top Draw and started working at another digital marketing agency- Kick Point.

Within 2 weeks, Kick Point gave away smile cookies to people on Jasper Ave. It was so fun to have us all involved in a random act of kindness. Who doesn’t like cookies?

New job, new people, new experiences. September was pretty awesome.

October
In October, I got to say something I have never said before: I finished Couch to 5km. It was easy to see the changes if the before and after in my face.

In typical Jen fashion, I decided to set another goal for running. I’m going to be running 21 kilometres at the Strip the Night marathon in December 2013. Talk about a big goal. It’s a good thing I have so much support.

October was also the month that I was named a Game Changer. What an honour! You can read all about on their website.

November
Ever since I started running and really looking at my health, I’ve opened my eyes to how I truly see myself. It’s been very hard at times, and easy to accept in others.

What a journey I’m on! So glad to have these little faces to inspire me to strive farther.

December
December has been hard on me physically. I took a break from running for a week as I was starting to feel a lot of pain in my calves. With rest and exercise, I was able to bounce back right away. At least until I got sick over Christmas. I can’t wait to get back on track. A year seems like a long time to train, but it really isn’t. Come on body. Work with me dammit!

I got to spend the holidays with friends and family this year. As a person who prefers Halloween to Christmas, it has always just seemed like another day to me.

This year, I got to see Christmas through the eyes of a 4 year-old and a baby. It was fantastic.

2012 has been an absolutely amazing year for me and my family. I’m really looking forward to 2013. I have a feeling it will be one of the best years of my life.

Thank you for reading this post and for supporting me through this past years. Words can not express how grateful I am to each and everyone of you.

Happy 2013!!

What an amazing year. I didn’t know you were a runner! What a GOAL! Good for you. I used to run and bike – a great deal. I loved it so much! And two children the perfect age apart. Loved reading your recap. Especially the menu planning and cooking and baking love you have discovered! We MUST cook together – or I will do a mommy cooking bee! So wonderful to have meals for the freezer! Happy Happy 2013 with more GOOD from Jen to come!

    XO
